ISO 7240-18:2009 Fire detection and alarm systems - Part 18: Input/output devices

ISO 7240 (all parts) specifies components of fire detection and alarm systems, requirements for their interconnection and installation and the performance, testing, and servicing of parts or of complete systems. It provides
- local and/or remote signals to organizations having authority to respond to fire alarms, and
- signals to initiate the operation of fire protection equipment and other systems.
This part of I SO 7240 specifies requ irem ents, test m ethods and perform ance criteria for input/output devices connected to a transm ission path of a fire detecti on and alarm system used to receive and /or transm it signals to or from the transm ission path, n ecessary for th e operation of th e fire detection and fire alarm system and/or fire protection system.
An input/output device can be a physically separate device or its function can be i ntegrated into another device, in which case this part of I SO 7240 can be used to assess this function.
An input/output device can include signal amplifiers and signal transfer in separate enclosures, in which case the requirements of this part of ISO 7240 shall apply.
Control and in dicating equipment and ancillary control and indicating equipment (e.g. repeater panels and fire brigade panels) are not covered by this part of I SO 7240.
