Buszewski B., Dziubakiewicz E., Szumski M. (Eds.) Electromigration Techniques: Theory and Practice
Springer, 2013. — 367 p. — (Springer Series in Chemical Physics). — ISBN: 978-3-642-35043-6.
Modern analytical methods allow for the determination of a whole range of compounds existing in various matrices in a precise and thorough way. Particularly important for the correct functioning of natural systems is the determination of pollutants which irretrievably destroy living organisms. Limiting the dissemination of many harmful substances, including xenobiotics, is absolutely essential. The general trend towards a bigger development of the industry, despite the introduction of sustainable development principles or the green chemistry programme, does not allow to avoid direct (water, soil, air pollution) or/and indirect hazards (food, plants, animals, a human being). It involves the introduction of a full range of various analytical techniques based on both chemical reactions and
physical–chemical phenomena, performed in a preparative, analytical, micro- or/and nanoscale.
The development of modern instrumental techniques has led to the lowering of the limit of detection, as well as the increase in the precision and accuracy of measurements. Among all instrumental methods, a primary place is held by separation techniques (chromatography and electromigration techniques).
The scope of applicability of separation techniques is connected not only with properties and kinds of determined substances, but mostly with their molecular mass.
The book provides the broad knowledge on electromigration techniques including: theory of CE, description of instrumentation, theory and practice in micellar electrokinetic chromatography, isotachophoresis, capillary isoelectric focusing, capillary and planar electrochromatography (including description of instrumentation and packed and monolithic column preparation), 2D-gel electrophoresis (including sample preparation) and lab-on-a-chip systems. The book also provides the most recent examples of applications including food, environmental, pharmaceutical analysis as well as proteomics.
The book has a tutorial-like style appropriate for graduate students and newcomers
